National Portrait Gallery Exhibition 26/11 to 27/09/09

The National Portait Gallery in Washington DC opens its doors today with a brand new exhibition 'Portraiture Now' which focuses on the work of six photographers, who, in their work for publications like the New Yorker, Esquire and the New York Times Magazine, have brought a distinctive take on contemporary portraiture to the attention of a whole new audience.
Acclaimed for their independent work, these six photographers, Katy Grannan, Jocelyn Lee, Ryan McGinley, Steve Pyke, Martin Schoeller, and Alec Soth, have also produced works on a variety of editorial projects. Their work builds upon the long standing tradition of photographic portraiture taken for the popular press and highlights creative possibilities for the twenty first century portrayal of us all.
