A photographic exhibition entitled' De lo humano. Fotografia Internacional 1900-1950', which has been on show at the Picasso Museum in Malaga (MPM) since Feb this year has received over 52,000 visitors, in fact on average, there were over 620 visitors every day.
The exhibition analysed the evolution of photography during the period 1900 - 1950, with a collection of 111 photos by 68 photographers including Cecil Beaton, Brassai, Claude Cahun, Cartier-Bresson, Langdon Coburn, Kertesz, Moholy-Nagy, Man Ray, Rodtchenko, August Sander and Edward Steichen, all of which have the human being as their central theme.
The majority of the photos in the exhibition, which was presented by the Junta de Andalucia’s councillor for Culture, Rosa Torres, came from the Folkwang Museum in Essen, Germany, but besides these, the Cartier-Bresson Foundation in Paris, the International Photographic Centre in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (to name just a few) also lent pieces.
Christine Ruiz-Picasso, the artist’s daughter-in-law, reminded the inaugural conference in February that Picasso himself had realised the importance of photography and had purchased a camera in 1907. He then used this to record the evolution of one of his most important works, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.
