Contemporary Interior Design - Learntodream and Bespoke Interior Design Projects - Part 2

So you spent loads of time comparing paint colour charts and finally finished up with walls that are a perfect colour match to your brand new and absolutely gorgeous full colour art print. This is a great start to the interior design process but what happens next?

Home Interior Design and the Photograph

Home and interior design is always great fun but sometimes it needs you to be slightly adventurous in your choice of subject matter. Before we proceed I need you to dig deep into your photo collection and find - or be really adventurous and create a very special set of colour photographs that compliment your main choice of image.

Let me explain: if, for example you have chosen a portrait image of your partner, child or favourite pet then look for a set of images that reflect your main subject choice in a number of different ways. If the subject of your main photographic image looks very serious then you may want to look for a set of pictures where they are doing something more frivolous.

Choose Photographs with Excitement and Activity

If the main picture is of someone sitting quietly then look for pictures which are full of excitement and activity. Use your design skills to help you choose the way you want your subject to look but don’t get carried away and make them too big. These are ‘supporting’ images designed to emphasise the main work.

Having chosen your ‘set’ of contrasting, yet complimentary photographs have them digitally printed onto a rich textured material that will add substance and depth to your images. Find the perfect set of frames to showcase your photographic images or perhaps find frames that are all quite different as the printed images themselves should be able to carry your theme.

Use Photographs in Interior Design but don't Force the Issue

As you look around for a great place to display your new set of images, think about the ways they could relate to the main image. Try to hang them so that all of the images can be seen at the same time. You may even want some to be seen through glass or reflected in a mirror. The relationship between pieces of art should be evident but don’t allow this to be too contrived as good home interior design is never forced and always appears natural.

The final touches are the soft furnishings that should be carefully selected to provide a background of appropriate colours and a suitably comfortable place for you and your guests to relax. The most exciting soft furnishings often have rich textures that blend into to a project and reflect other key areas

Use Textured Fabrics when using Textured Canvas Photographs

If you have used a textured canvas for your prints then you might want to think about using a rough textured fabric that reflects with the open weave of canvass. Hessian might work for you. Alternately a soft fabric that contrasts with the canvas may suit your ideas. There are no ‘hard and fast’ rules. Experiment to find the best ideas and don’t forget, nothing is for ever. Home interior design benefits from regular changes.
